Santanico wins Sunday Night H.O.R.S.E
This week’s edition of Sunday Night H.O.R.S.E. drew a field of 173 players looking to take their shot at this weekly mixed title. The prize pool was a $34,600 with first place winning $9,515.
The Full Tilt Poker red pro’s were out in force, including a 2007 H.O.R.S.E. bracelet winner. Cyndy Violette, Jon turner, Kristy Gazes, Scott Fischman, Keith Sexton and Jens Voertmann were all in attendance. Sexton and Voertmann made the money in this event, with Sexton finishing in 12th place and Voertmann were among those at the final table.
This week’s final table was headlined by Jens Voertmann but also featured former champions Santanico and digablemars. This is how the final eight player started at final table play:
Jaymz44 49,208
digablemars 48,349
Santanico 218,058
goldfishman7 51,448
Ari “I Am Ari” Engel 27,792
Jens Voertmann 60,799
Scary285 34,430
tenmile 28,916
Jaymz44 was the first player eliminated. He put his last 10,816 in with Q-5-3 during razz and faced the 7-5-A of Santanico. Santanico had a 10 by fifth and Jaymz44 kept pairing after fourth. The river gave Santanico a 9-low and sent Jaymz44 home in 8th.
Tenmile put his last 9,832 into the middle during 3rd street of stud with split fours. Jens Voertmann made the call with Q-J-10. He paired jacks on fourth, made queens up on fifth and filled up with jacks full on the river. Tenmile never improved past fours and finished in 7th.
Digablemars was all-in on third street during Stud 8 with Ad-7c-2s and ahead of Jens Voertmann’s 7s-2d-4h. Voertmann improved with every card. He caught a four card 7-low on fourth, pair on 5th, two pair on 6th, and then made his 7-low on the river. Digablemars only managed a single pair for high and an eight low was not enough to chop. As a result, digablemars became our 6th place finisher.
Ari Engel aka “I Am Ari” led the betting on fifth and sixth streets during a stud 8 hand, but on the river, Santanico bet out, which was enough to put Engel all-in. He called and Santanico showed trip 10’s. Engel did not have anything to beat her and succumbed in 5th place.
During the Stud 8 round, a deal was inquired about but both Santanico and Jens Voertmann declined. Voertmann stated that he would not do a deal and that he would need to be busted first. This is how the final four stood at the break:
Santanico 251,258
Jens Voertmann 128,512
Goldfishman7 91,672
Scary285 47,558
Shortly after the break, Scary285 was all-in on fourth street with Ah-Ks-Qc-7s and faced a huge draw from Santanico who held Ac-8c-4c-3c. Sixth put Scary285 in the lead with a pair of kings against a pair of fours for Santanico. Sixth street left Scary285 drawing to four outs for a chop. Santanico caught a 6c for the low and a flush. Scary285 caught two pair and could win 1/2 the pot only if he filled up. Scary285 caught a meaningless deuce on the river to send him home in 4th place.
It seemed like that goldfishman7 was destined for 3rd place money until Jens Voertmann lost a series of pots. The most crucial saw him lose most of his 67,512 stack during Holdem when he flopped middle pair and goldfishman7 flopped top pair. After the hand, Voertmann was left with only 16,840. The very next hand, he was all-in with Jc-5h and called by Santanico with a meager 5s-2c. A deuce on the flop put Santanico in the lead. Voertmann was unable to catch a five or jack on the turn or river and he headed out in 3rd place. Santanico picked up the pro bounty with his elimination.
A deal was discussed between goldfishman7 and Santanico. Santanico tried to wrangle for more money on top of the chip count deal and goldfishman7 said to play on. Santanico then proceeded to blatantly stall to work towards the Omaha Hi-Lo round. In the meantime, Goldfishman7 worked his way back up to 160k in chips.
However, once play reached the Omaha Hi-Lo round, Santanico put on a bit of an Omaha clinic. She whittled away at his stack until she crippled him after flopping a wheel draw and hitting a wheel to leave him with less than two big bets. He then put those bets in 4h-4s-7s-10s and Santanico called with Kh-Qs-10d-4d. A king on the flop of Ac-3s-Ks put Santanico in the lead but goldfishman7 picked up a flush draw. He was unable to hit his flush or catch the case four. The river Jh gave Santanico broadway and the win.
Santanico has won Sunday Night HORSE for at least the 2nd time since we have started tracking the event. She entered the final table as the chip leader and was never in danger really until the Holdem round. She then stalled her way into Omaha Hi-Lo where she put on a clinic in the game to take the title.
Congratulations to Santanico, Sunday Night HORSE winner.
