MarMoss wins Sunday Night Horse poker tournament
Hopefully starting a new trend, the February 28th edition of Sunday Night HORSE saw the guarantee beaten for the 2nd straight week. 162 players turned out to make a total prize pool of $32,400. Twenty four spots were paid and first took home $8,910.
This even saw several big names make the money. Bryan Micon finished in 20th. Hoosierjim finished in 16th. Full Tilt Poker red pro Paul Sexton took 13th and former champion SNACKERS took 12th. Kristy Gazes was all in with 9 players left and ahead with A-5 after flopping an ace and picking up a wheel draw on the turn. MarMoss had K-3 of club and made the call with bottom pair and flush draw on the turn. The river fell a nasty 3s and Gazes was the final table bubble girl. Two former champions headlined the final table. Ryon “7cardRyoff” Nicholson and INTERCEPTOR both secured final table seat. Davidmfio made the final table for the 2nd week in a row, but it was MarMoss that entered as chip leader. This is how the final eight players stacked up:
davidmfio 98.274
JBonus1 15,982
MarMoss 103,160
Sheriffen 72,510
MAMAJulia 52,910
7cardRyoff 62,711
Jonah 44,073
INTERCEPTOR 36,380
It took a while to lose our first play, but it was former champion INTERCEPTOR that went out first. He put the last of his chips in on fourth street of Razz with 9-6-3-2 and was facing the 2-3-4-5 of JBonus1. By sixth, INTERCEPTOR was drawing dead as he had a made nine with a redraw to a 7-6. JBonus1 had a made 7-5. INTERCEPTOR finished in 8th.
The very next hand Jonah was also all-in on fourth holding a 10-8-6-A. He faced the 6-4-3-A of MAMAJulie. MAMAJulia made a seven on fifth and with Jonah catching a nine, he was drawing dead. Jonah finished in 7th.
JBonus1 was all-in on third of Stud with buried kings and called by the split aces of Sheriffen. JBonus1 never improved his kings and Sheriffen made aces-up by the river. JBonus1 out in 6th place.
7cardRyoff was all-in during Stud with three spades to the jack. MAMAJulia made the call with A-K-J. 7cardRyoff improved to a flush on fifth, but only mustered a pair of sixes by the river. MAMAJulia caught a pair of aces on sixth and that was good enough to knock out our other former champion in 5th.
A deal was hinted at but davidmfio outright said that he wouldn’t consider one unless he doubled. This was actually somewhat admirable as he was the short stack. He then went to war during Stud 8. By fifth he held kings-up and was against the queens-up of MAMAJulia. Luck wasn’t on davidmfio’s side as sixth street gave MAMAJulia aces-up and the lead. Davidmfio was unable to fill up on the river and we were down to three.
By Holdem, Sherriffen was down to just 27,654 and he decided to gamble with 10d-9d. MAMAJulia called with Kc-2d. The board totally missed both players and King high was good enough to take us to heads-up.
Heads-up play was relatively even with MarMoss leading 270,677 to the 215,323 of MAMAJulia. Play went back and forth for a bit, but a couple of fortunate hands by MarMoss put him solidly in the lead. The end came during Omaha Hi-Lo, after flopping a straight, MarMoss took most of MAMAJulia’s stack and left her with 5,323. With the blinds 5k and 10k, she was all-in pre-flop almost automatically. She held Qc-5s-2h-2d and was facing the Qd-6c-4s-2s. A queen hit the flop, giving both top pair. The turn fell a four to give MarMoss the lead for high, but MAMAJulia still had a better low draw. The river fell the 10s and MarMoss was our champion.
MarMoss started the final table as the chip leader and had a roller coaster ride. He was in danger at one point of going out 8th as he lost almost 75% of his stack in the early rounds. However, he hung tough and in the end caught hands when he needed to in order to take the victory. He received $8,910 and bragging rights until next weekend.
