Kevin MacPhee wins the Full Tilt Sunday Night H.o.r.s.e.

After a two month absence due to the World Series of Poker, we have returned to bring you all the weekly action for Sunday Night H.O.R.S.E.. The July 25th edition of Sunday Night HORSE drew out a crowd of 138 players looking to take down the weekly $30,000 guarantee. Since the guarantee was again not met, the standard 16 players were paid with $9,000 going to first place.

Artie Cobb, Stu Paterson, and Cyndy Violette were the headliners among the red pros in the field. Stu Paterson was the only red pro to cash, and he made the final table. More on that in a bit. Theman2892 fell short of a payday and was our bubble boy for this event. We had four strong players among the 16 that cashed in this event, and all of them made the final table.

Stu Paterson was the headliner at this final table. Joining him was Ryon Nicholson “7cardRyoff” , Kevin MacPhee screen name “Wu_Wizard”, and ComptonMasta. Here are how the final eight players of this event started in chips:

Stu Paterson made the final table of this event, but unfortunately he could not capitalize on his final table run with a win. Even worse still, he actually was the first person out from this final table. He was knocked down to 5,666 and put all those chips at risk during Omaha with Ad-3d-Kc-10h. He called a raise from Ryon Nicholson who was holding Ah-2c-6d-6c. The flop gave Nicholson both a flush draw and nut low draw. The turn briefly put Paterson in the lead when it fell the 10s. The river then fell the 9c to give Nicholson his flush and send Paterson out in 8th.

Nicholson couldn’t get much else going and was down to about 8k in chips during Stud Hi. He called a raise from Kevin MacPhee all-in on third street with just a six showing. Yeurmine also called the raise. MacPhee then bet fourth and fifth street with yeurmine calling. Sixth street was checked around and then yeurmine called one final bet on the river. MacPhee showed a jack high straight, and that was good enough to beat both yeurmine and Nicholson. Ryon Nicholson finished in 7th place.

ComptonMasta and MacPhee capped the betting on third with ComptonMasta showing a 10 and MacPhee showing a jack. ComptonMasta then got the rest of his chips in on fourth and said “gg gl” before MacPhee showed his pair of jacks. ComptonMasta showed a pair of tens. ComptonMasta improved to tens-up on sixth, but MacPhee caught a third jack. That wound up being good enough to send ComptonMasta out in 6th place.

Yeurmine was down to 20k during the Holdem round and put them at risk pre-flop with A-7 against the K-3 of Kevin MacPhee. MacPhee caught a king on the flop and it was enough to send yeurmine out in 5th place.

Six hands later, elanor put half of her 50k stack in pre-flop against UhhMee. She then got the rest of her stack in on a flop of J-9-4 holding K-Q for a gutshot draw. She was behind the A-8 of UhhMee. The turn and river missed both players, and Elanor was out in 4th place.

Five hand later, one of the biggest pots of the tournament went down between UhhMee and jhksauser. UhhMee raised pre-flop and jhksauser made the call. The flop fell Ad-Kh-8c and jhksauser checked. UhhMee bet and jhksauser raised. UhhMee called to see a turn of the 6c. Betting was capped between the two players on the turn with UhhMee having 11k behind. The river fell the 5d and jhksauser bet 16k, enough to put UhhMee all-in. He made the call and jhksauser showed Ah-8h for a flopped two pair. UhhMee mucked and was out in third place.

At the start of heads-up play jhksauser held a 223,970 to 190,030 chip lead over Kevin MacPhee. On the very first hand, jhksauser took a dominating chip lead after rivering a flush. He led 359k to just 54k at this point. MacPhee did not give up and survived a series of all-ins to stay alive and get back up to 132k at the start of Omaha.

During the Omaha round, MacPhee took over. Everything that could go right did, and he took over the chip lead in a few short hands. Jhksauser was then crippled after he attempted to bluff into a board of Ah-5c-10c-Ks-Qc. MacPhee three-bet after a raise from jhksauser. Jhksauser must have had his hand in the cookie jar as he then folded to the three-bet.

A couple of chopped all-in pots occurred between the two before the final hand went down. Jhksauser put his last 36,760 in pre-flop with 2-3-3-4 and was called by the J-7-5-3 of MacPhee. A jack on the flop of 6-J-6 put MacPhee in the lead. A seven on the turn gave MacPhee two pair, but now jhksauser could catch a low or a straight. The river fell the Qh and Kevin MacPhee is our champion.

Kevin MacPhee is no stranger to mixed game success. He just came off a successful summer at the WSOP with a final table in the $2,500 HA Event as well as cashes in the $1,500 Stud Hi-Lo, the $1,500 PL Omaha Hi-Lo Event, and the $10,000 Main Event. While most of those finishes earned him more than tonight’s prize of $9,000, all of those finishes were short of first place. In this case he came out the victor, at least for this week.
