Poker Stake

In the poker world, staking is the act of a person backing a poker player in a poker game. Normally, a player will approach either another player or someone that is known to stake players and try and arrange an agreement for that person to put up money for them to play on.

Once an agreement has been reached, the player is either given a set amount of money to play on, or in the case of tournaments, the staker will provide the player either a tournament entry or buy-in. Once a player has completed their game or their tournament, the profits are divided between the player and staker minus the original entry fees.
