Daniel Negreanu Bio
One of the best all-around poker players on the planet today is “Kid Poker” Daniel Negreanu. Early in his life, Negreanu’s initial competitive aspirations centered on billiards. Negreanu was an aspiring professional snooker player when he discovered poker at the age of 15. By the time he was 16, Negreanu spent a great deal of his time playing pool and playing poker. Eventually, he would drop out of high school in order to pursue poker.
For the first few years of his poker career, Negreanu spent his time playing in various underground games. When he turned 21, he left his home of Toronto to try his hand at making it in Las Vegas. Unfortunately, his initial trip did not turn out as planned and within eight months, Negreanu was busted and had to start over again in Toronto.
However, from those modest beginnings, Negreanu came roaring back to become one of the best all-around poker players on the planet. Unlike many professional, Negreanu is adept in all variants of poker. If you look at his WSOP bracelets, he had wins in Pot Limit Holdem, two in Limit Holdem, and one in S.H.O.E. S.H.O.E. is H.O.R.S.E. but without Razz.
In fact, if you look through Negreanu’s resume, he has wins in every major form of poker that is spread regularly in tournaments. He also has a WSOP final table in Razz. Negreanu was also a collaborator on Super System 2 and wrote the chapter on lowball. Negreanu regularly plays lowball and is considered to be one of the better lowball cash game players in the world.
One reason that Negreanu is so successful in cash games and in tournaments is his ability to read people at the table. If you watch past World Series of Poker events, you will see some incredible reads that he puts on players. Many times, he can literally call out the cards in the other person’s hand. Negreanu is also known to regularly chat up the players at the table, sometimes to the point of being annoying. He says that he does this in an attempt to get as much information about the players at the table that he can. Since his people skills are such a big part of his game, he prefers live poker to online.
Negreanu is also a firm believer of not wearing sunglasses at the table. He personally chooses not to wear sunglasses as he feels he has the ability to not give any information away with his eyes. He also is a strong believer of not making deals at final tables. It is well documented that he will say no to any deal making at the final table.
Daniel Negreanu combines a sharp intellect and years of experience to dominate at the poker table. Every year, Negreanu is in the running for multiple events. At just 34, he ranks 2nd all time in total money won in live poker tournaments with over $11 Million in total winnings. With his amazing reading ability and his ability to play every form of poker imaginable, it is almost a lock that Negreanu will ultimately take over the all-time lead. What remains to be seen is how many titles and how much money he will win before he retires from the felt.
